Illuminated property at night
Cost guide

What does landscape lighting really cost?

A plain-English guide to what drives the price, with illustrative ranges and no jargon.

The honest answer

It depends, and here’s exactly on what.

No two properties are alike, so no two lighting systems cost the same. A modest entry-and-trees design and a full-property system with smart control are very different projects.

The good news: lighting scales gracefully. You can design the whole property once and install it in phases, starting with the areas that matter most. The illustrative ranges below are meant to help you plan, and your free walk-through turns them into a firm, itemized quote.

Price factors

Six things that move the number.

Number of fixtures

More features lit means more fixtures, wire and labor. This is the biggest driver.

Size and terrain

Large lots, long runs, slopes and rock add time and materials.

Trees and hardscape

Tall trees, retaining walls and steps may need specialty fixtures or mounting.

Power and controls

Transformer size, zones, timers and smart controls change the system’s scope.

Materials

Solid brass and copper cost more up front and last for decades outdoors.

Access and conditions

Hardscape crossings, existing landscaping and tight access influence labor.

Smart budgeting

Get the most from every dollar.

  • Design the whole property first, then phase the install.
  • Start with entries, paths and your best two or three trees.
  • Choose solid brass or copper where fixtures are exposed.
  • Right-size the transformer so you can expand later.
  • Add smart control so lights run only when you want them.
Cost FAQ

More on pricing.

Is a lighting estimate free?

Yes. The walk-through, the custom plan and the written quote are free.

Why not just buy lights at a hardware store?

DIY kits can work for a few accent lights. A designed system uses higher-grade fixtures, correct wire sizing, proper transformer capacity and precise aiming, which is where most of the long-term value comes from.

Can I pay in phases?

We can design the full property and install in stages. Ask during your walk-through about phasing and scheduling.

Does LED really lower my operating cost?

LED fixtures use far less power than halogen. Try the LED Savings Calculator to estimate it for your system.
